The Sword Dream Home Page
This is the home page for Sword Dream 3D, the best role
playing game for the Macintosh and Mac OS compatible computers. Sword
Dream is shareware: you can download a copy for free, try it, and pay
only if you like it. The current version is v2.1, and is available in
your choice of English, French or Italian, and you can download it
from this site - just scroll to the Index and
make a choice.
What's new?
In our spare time, we are working on Dream 2.2. The new version
will also sport the new, enhanced user interface for users of Mac OS
8. Unluckily, our spare time is exceedingly few, and we can't promise
any release date.
The address of the project leader for Sword Dream recently
changed. You'll find it here. Please
note that the addresses listed in the game and the documentation
are now obsolete.
This page was last revised on September 17, 1998. This WWW
site is updated irregularly - every time a new scenario appears or a
new release is ready. We suggest that you employ an Internet service,
such as the free
PageWatch,
to be notified of changes.

Welcome, adventurer!
Welcome, adventurer!
We hope you'll pass many enjoyable hours with the Dream gaming
system. In here, you'll explore dark ruins and deep forests; save
beautiful princesses and endangered realms; amass vast amounts of
gold and jewellery; kill hideous monsters.
More than anything else, you'll impersonate a powerful character,
and decide how he or she will move and react in the fantasy world of
the Dream. (You can choose to move more than one character, up to a
maximum of eight. More that one character may be required to solve
difficult situations which call for a group effort).
What is Dream?
Dream is an open-ended role playing game for the Macintosh
computer.
There's no fixed end to the game (well, you can get killed if you
try hard, but we discourage you from doing so). Your objective isn't
fixed: you may try to get rich, or powerful, or famous. (Just a
suggestion: try all of them!)
A unique characteristic of the Dream gaming system is its
openness. You aren't limited to a single adventure, as is common with
similar games: the character(s) you'll create can grow in power and
wealth playing different adventures, created by different people
around the world. Anybody with a minimum of imagination and technical
experience can create gaming adventures for use with the Dream gaming
system. No programming experience is required, and there are no fees
whatsoever to be paid.
Sword Dream 3D spec sheet - facts and figures
Here's a very short fact sheet.
- 3D, real time subjective gameplay (you can
see a preview)
- Macintosh interface: to see a character's stats you double
click on his icon, and a window appears. To exchange an object
between characters, you drag and drop the item's icon. To learn
spells, you drag them to the character.
- Auto-mapping
- Full-featured soundtrack (requires QuickTime v2.0 - the
QuickTime Musical Instruments are strongly suggested, and version
2.5 or greater of the Quicktime extension gives the best results).
- Supports the Speech Synthesis software (aka PlainTalk) from
Apple: persons met in the game speak (the text is also shown in a
window).
- Supports AppleScript: most moves can be scripted.
- Supports PlainTalk speech recognition.
- Sound and speech are asynchronous, and the game continues
while they are played.
- Adventures (game scenarios) are totally independent from the
application code and can be interlocked. Six scenarios are
currently available and more are planned.
- Up to 8 characters per group. There are six character classes
(fighter, ranger, paladin, rogue, wizard and cleric), each with
special abilities and/or spells.
- Runs at native speed on PowerPC Macintosh compatible
computers;
- Runs on multiple screen systems; supports and takes advantage
of such configurations and big screens;
- 32-bit compatible;
- Supports all screen depths. (256 color screen, or better, is
strongly suggested).
- System requirements: Apple Macintosh with 68040 or better; 13"
screen (Dream takes advantage of larger monitors); QuickTime;
System 7.0 or later; 4 MB of RAM for the application.
