Scenarios for Sword Dream
Sword Dream is a
role-playing engine. This means that the application, by itself, lets
you play a game adventure (also called a scenario in Dream
parlance). The characters you develop and grow in one scenario can be
kept in the next, along with their treasures, spells and items.
This page contains a brief description for all released and publicly
planned scenarios, in the order we first heard of them. Scenarios
which take advantage of the 3D features in the new Sword Dream 3D are
labeled with the 3D icon.
You are undecided? You don't know which scenario is the best one
for a firstcomer? We have a suggestion!
How to download the software
Most scenarios are available in more than one
language. Just click on the blue underlined name of your preferred
language. Press the
option key while clicking, to ensure that your browser understands
you want to download a copy using the faster binary
mode.
Open me
You'll find a very short tutorial
scenario in the base package, called "Open me ". The
latest version takes advantage of the 3D engine and opens into a 3D
environment. More scenarios can be found in the same place from where
you downloaded the base package. The first ones were authored by the
same people who brought you Sword Dream itself.
Spirit of Darkness.
The Dawn Valley used to be a rich, prosperous place. The busy
mines were a constant source of wealth, and a benign saint looked
over the inhabitants. But in good times, the benefactors can be
forgotten. The saint's cult is dwindling and almost gone when a demon
appears and claims the mines for himself... Can you restore the
Valley to the forces of light, banishing the Spirit of Darkness?
This scenario is a leftover from v1.0; it used to be the suggested
first adventure for new players - but now you'd better start with
Heroes of the Black Tower. It isn't
graphically astounding like the new ones. We also created a
ready-for-use character group for use in this scenario, so you can
play immediately if you wish (if you are a hard-boiled role player
like myself, you'll want to create your characters yourself from
scratch).
Spirit of Darkness is available in English, French and Italian.
The English version was revised in May 1997 for enhanced
compatibility with Dream 3D.
Return to Dawn Valley
Dawn Valley needs you... again. The mines were restored to
usefulness the last time you were here, but now the ancient castle is
infested by a phantom. The citizens, of course, look up to their old
savior - you! But it won't be so easy, this time... "Time", I said?
Yes, there lies the crux of the matter...
The sequel to "Spirit of Darkness". The most extensive scenario
yet: it'll take a while to master all of its secrets and subplots...
and a beauty to see, too! We don't suggest you start from here,
though.
Return to Dawn Valley is available in English, French and Italian.
The English version was revised in May 1997 for enhanced
compatibility with Dream 3D.
Secret of Greywood
A little
village near the Greywood is terrified: the daughter of the local
innkeeper was kidnapped. The girl was loved by everybody for her
kindness and goodness: a dark cult, long gone, is suspected to stand
behind her disappearance. Will you be able to recover the girl and
strike at the cultists?
A little, nice scenario from Eugenio Spagnolini. Graphically very
enticing, also. You can start from here, if you don't like Spirit of
Darkness.
Secret of Greywood is available in English, French and Italian.
Darkness over the Nile River
A big adventure in ancient Egypt, also known as "Nile trial".
Check out the new, better, bigger, much more polished version 1.5.You
can download this scenario from the WWW page that its author, Mark
Sloan, created for it. The background takes a while to be
downloaded...
Darkness over the Nile River is available in
English
only.
Quest for a Paladin
The Impossible Mountains, northernmost border of the Northern
Human Empire. A lonesome, frigid place, where only the most valiant
adventurers dare to come. The Last Inn. Your starting place for this
new adventure. A lost village, whispered to be the burial place for
Roland De Vries, the legendary Paladin. The starting place for a
journey in snow and frost, looking for a shrine where the last
Paladins on this world, lar, still keep their faith pure. You must
convince one of them to follow you, or everything is lost!
Nicolas Meyer, our French language localizator (or is it
"localizer"?) is finished developing this huge scenario which is
being tested and should be released shortly. From an original idea by
Luca Accomazzi, computer graphics by Eugenio Spagnolini.
If you think we have been promising this new scenario for too
long, and it still isn't available, go ahead and
mail the author.
Quest for a Paladin will be made available in French first,
English second and Italian last.
Heroes of the Black Tower
The High Lord was slain. His
companions exterminated. His heir will shortly be born, but his
birthright, the magic Sword of the Lords, was stolen. Journey to the
Dungeon of Doom, where an ancient evil stalks the corridors, and try
to recover the lost treasure.
This is the first 3D scenario to be released by us. It's meant to
be an introductory, first level game, and replaces Spirit of Darkness
as our suggested first adventure for players - and it's beautiful.
Created by Eugenio Spagnolini, our chief artist, with help from Alex
Raccuglia, the maker of the 3D engine in Dream.
Heroes of the Black Tower is available in
English,
French
and
Italian
versions. It is a fairly graphic-intensive scenario, so you'll need
to assign at least 6 MB of memory to the Dream application (complete
instructions are in a file, inside the package you'll download).
This is version 1.0.1 of the game scenario. It fixes a small bug,
recently discovered by a player, where the game would stop and
complain about a missing resource. No new game elements were added
for this release.
The Brotherhood
Tired to go around slaughtering
innocent (and not-so-innocent) monsters? It's time for a change in
perspective.
When Darklyng, an evil arch-wizard, appeared, he stole the magic
amulet protecting Kringle Town, your homeplace. He took the High
Tower for his own, and bluntly stated that everybody should consider
himself (or herself) his slave. Hordes of valiant fighters tried to
hack & slash their way through his traps and minions. And failed.
You are a lowly thief (or a rogue, as you prefer to be called).
Can you succeed where the mighty warriors failed? Enter the High
Tower and steal the Amulet, if you can.
This short scenario by Luca Accomazzi is available in
English,
French
and
Italian
versions.
