Sword Dream technical note 16
Crime and punishment
Q: In my scenario, the player will meet a friendly mage in
an encounter. The mage is going to help the group. How do I make it
that if the Player kills the mage, that all other encounters will
have more monsters and happen more often? There's gotta be a penalty
for murdering a friendly person.
A: There's no way to do exactly that in Dream. You might consider
avoiding using a monster and letting the text be spoken by an
out-of-stage character, like I did with the archpriest in Return To
Dawn Valley, so the player will be unable to affect the mage. Or you
could give a valuable item to him, and then prepare a deadly
encounter which will happen only if a character owns that item.
The best way, anyhow, is through usage of the new "Dialog" feature
in Sword Dream 3D. You can control the questions and answers. If the
players become hostile, have them meet a fiery punishment - say, in a
final encounter with some guardian for the dead mage.
